Preparing for, and Thriving at, University

happy student arriving in her university room with her belongings, followed by her mum

Preparing for University

Starting university is a major transition for everyone but especially for autistic students, almost everything about life is about to change and this can be overwhelming. However, with the right support these changes can be planned for and will feel less daunting.

Things I can  help you with:

Am I ready for university?

How will I cope at uni?

How will I make friends?

What if I'm homesick?

I will miss my family and friends. What if I'm lonely?

What help will the uni give me?

What teaching adjustments can I ask for?

How do I apply for Disabled Students Allowance?

With many years experience working with autistic university students and a thorough knowledge of the university environment, I offer tailored support to help autistic individuals develop tools and strategies to prepare for this important step.  Working together we can ensure that preparing to start university is a manageable and positive experience.

The First Few Weeks at University

The first term at university can be challenging, it can be a huge learning curve with lots of changes and challenges. I have many years experience of helping autistic students, and their parents,  transition and settle into university, I offer support, guidance and reassurance to parents and students navigate this challenging but exciting time.

Mentoring Support at University

I offer regular checking in appointments to discuss how things are going and help overcome any issues that arise during your time at university.  These can be one-off sessions for specific challenges or regular weekly or monthly sessions throughout the year.

Support for Parents and Carers

As a mum of autistic children I have first hand experience of how it feels to be far away and watching from a distance as an autistic child, I have been on the end of many phone calls from my children that have left me sick with worry.  I also have many years experience of supporting parents at this challenging time.
